How to Make Popcorn Quietly: 6 Tips, Tricks, and Ideas

Psssst! Don’t tell anyone, but popcorn makes for a great snack!

It’s quick and easy to make and is delicious no matter how you like it.

But when popcorn time comes around, there are some people who just want to enjoy the popcorn in peace without making noise or keeping the kids awake.

So we’ve compiled 6 tips, tricks, and ideas on how you can make popcorn quietly so that your cravings don’t have to be ruined by loud popping noises.

  • Use ovens
  • Use popcorn bags/pouches
  • Use popcorn poppers
  • Use Popcorn machines
  • Popcorn in the Microwave
  • Use a Colander

DIY Hacks (Tips and Tricks)

Following are the major tips and tricks for you to find out which one works best for you.

Use ovens:

Ovens are quieter than microwaves, and popcorn popped this way has a crispier texture.

However, be sure to use parchment paper or you’ll have popcorn all over your oven!

Use an oven-safe dish or a heavy pot with a lid to contain the popping corn.

Pop and serve your popcorn immediately, before it cools off, otherwise, it becomes too hard to eat!

Use popcorn bags/pouches:

Popcorn will pop without making a sound if you use popcorn bags.

But this method can be messy and may not work for everyone, especially those with allergies or who are sensitive to the smell of plastic.

Plus there’s also that awkward moment when someone needs salt on their popcorn but doesn’t know how to open the bag.

They don’t make any noise at all so there won’t be anything to distract from your movie!

There are several different brands out there but we’ve found some super cute ones by Nostalgia Electrics (they come with nice little recipes like buttery parmesan) or more traditional flavors like caramel corn as well!

These can range anywhere from $15-$30 depending on the brand and features.

Use popcorn poppers:

Popcorn poppers make popcorn without the popping noise.

Many poppers come with other features like butter melting dispensers or stirrers for making popcorn even tastier!

But these are pretty pricey – you’ll need to dish out around $100 for a good quality machine.

Some people say it’s worth the money since they can enjoy their favorite movie in peace and quiet.

Others disagree because popping corn is so addictive that there’s no way any substitute could ever satisfy them.

And finally, some of us just don’t have space on our counter space or near our television sets – those would be perfect locations for an expensive new appliance (or not).

The decision ultimately comes down to your personal preference as well as your living accommodations.

Use Popcorn machines:

If you’re looking for an even easier solution, there are specialized easy-to-use electric popcorn machines that can be found online or in most major stores!

These range anywhere from $20-$500 depending on if it’s just for microwaveable corn kernels or not.

You might also consider getting one with a built-in butter dispenser as well because no matter your preference.

This will bring out the full flavor of whatever kind of popcorns you like (and who doesn’t?).

If this all sounds too complicated to handle and want something quick and simple, try popping some regular old microwavable kernels instead.

They don’t make any noise at all during cooking which is perfect if you need to get up and go to the bathroom or hide in your bedroom.

Depending on how many kernels you pop, it will take anywhere from a couple of minutes up to around five before they’re ready.

But that’s much quieter than anything else! (Really!)

Popcorn in the Microwave:

Making popcorn in the microwave quietly is a bit longer if you don’t want your home members to wake up at night.

The best DIY hack for popping the corn in the microwave:

Place a paper towel near the top of your microwave, this will help to absorb some of the popcorn’s oils while it cooks.

Keep the popcorn in an air-tight container, using a plastic bag or Tupperware with a lid to keep things quiet.

Put your microwave on its lowest setting when you pop those kernels!

You can only do this if your microwaves timer has settings for 30 seconds and 60 seconds as well.

Otherwise, just turn the power off for 30 seconds before turning it back up again.

Wrap a paper towel around microwaved corn kernels so that their steam doesn’t escape too quickly through cracks in the bag.

This reduces loud pops during heating: This trick will stop popcorn from popping too loudly and make it taste much better.

Use a Colander:

If you have an old colander and a stovetop, place some popcorn kernels in the bottom of the colander.

Then set it on your burner and turn up the heat to medium-high.

When the corn starts popping, quickly cover with a lid or another pot.

The pressure from steam will keep them going for quite a while.

They’ll be much quieter than microwaveable bags or oil in a pan!

You can also put at least one layer of paper towels below to catch any drips before cooking begins.

This is especially helpful if using this technique outside because there’s no need for cleanup afterward (just replace those used paper towels).

Final words on How to Make Popcorn Quietly

There are many ways to make popcorn without making a lot of noise, but it all depends on your own personal preference.

Above mentioned Tips and Tricks helps you find the best way you need to use to pop your corn quietly.

If you’re looking for an even easier solution, there are specialized easy-to-use electric popcorn machines that can be found online or in most major stores!

These can cost you between $50 to $250 as per the quality and the specs and differences in features.
